Kingdom Principles

“They then said, what are we to do, that we may [habitually] be working the works of God? [What are we to do to carry out what God requires?] Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One whom he has sent [that you cleave, trust, rely on, and have faith in His messenger].” John 6:28, 29, AMP.

“Every scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Tim. 3:16, 17, AMP.

“On this account I say to YOU: Stop being anxious about YOUR souls as to what YOU will eat or what YOU will drink, or about YOUR bodies as to what YOU will wear. Does not the soul mean more than food and the body than clothing?” Matthew 6:25, NW.

“Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed; avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] ‘Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax my hold on you)! {assuredly not!]. Heb. 13:5, AMP.

“Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; He will not serve before obscure men.” Pro. 22:29, TM.

“For God is the one who gives seed to the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will give you many opportunities to do good, and he will produce a great harvest of generosity in you” 2 Cor. 9:10, LFB.

“Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor [who practices loving others] has fulfilled the Law [relating to one’s fellowmen, meeting all its requirements]”. Rom. 13:8, AMP.

“But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is at the root of all kinds of evil, and some people, craving money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.” 1 Tim. 6:9-10, LFB.

“Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health. Your very bones will vibrate with life! Honor God with everything you own, give him the first and the best. Your bones will burst, your wine vats will brim over.” Pro. 3:7-8, TM.

“So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and steady, always enthusiastic about the Lord’s work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.” 1 Cor. 15:58, LFB.

Education In Kingdom Living

In the time of Jesus, there were many rabbinical schools and students (disciples) would seek out a particular rabbi they wanted to learn from. In the case of Jesus, he was the one who sought out the perspective student he wanted as his disciple. Disciple means ‘learner’.  Another way in which Jesus was set apart was in the length of time the student would serve. In the case of other rabbi’s, the disciple would eventually leave and set up his on school. But Jesus told his disciples that he would always be their teacher. They became lifetime students. They were bound to him and God’s will for them.

This was logical because they were being made citizens of His Kingdom, and as citizens and sons and daughters of the King, one of their gifts was everlasting life. “As for us, our citizenship exists in the heavens, from which place also we are eagerly waiting for a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Phil. 3:20. NW The Kingdom was heavenly. In other words, it’s headquarters was in heaven with it’s sphere of influence extending to earth. You might say that earth is a colony of heaven. Man had been given the governership of colony earth. Every day, Adam received lessons in governing the earth from God himself. To be a faithful steward, he needed to know the rules, the do’s and don’ts. We know Adam rebelled and abdicated to Satan, and Satan has made a mess of things.

However, even though man abdicated his position, God did not accept the new arrangement. He still held man responsible and indicated he would restore righteous rulership to man. It took four thousand years, but Jesus was sent to do just that. But just as his forefather Adam had to be taught the rules of the kingdom and how to be righteous and just, so did men in Jesus time, and so do we today.

When Satan rebelled and persuaded man to worship him, he started religion. Out of a sincere heart and respect for Jehovah’s sovereignty, Abel, Adam’s son honored God and showed proper  subjection. Cain,  on the other hand was influence by religion. He felt he was due favors from God and only had to go through the ritual of serving and worshiping him in order to please him. God showed him he was not a god to be appeased like Satan. To be righteous, one had to have the right motive and attitude.(Compare Hosea 6:6. NW  “In loving-kindness I have taken delight, and not in sacrifice; and in the knowledge of God rather than in whole burnt offerings. ”) . Jehovah said to Cain, “if you turn (repent) to doing good, will there not be an exaltation? But if you do not turn to doing good, there is sin crouching at your entrance, and for you is its craving; and will you for your part get the mastery over it?” Gen. 4:7. NW

It was Christian leaders in the fourth century who turned Christianity into a religion, aping the cultic religions of the day. True Christianity, the way Jesus taught it is not a religion, it’s a ‘way of Life’. Jesus was teaching his followers how to live in the Kingdom. Heaven is a loving, peaceful family environment. That’s the way God meant and means for earth to be again. So we have to learn how to live in the kingdom. Just as with the early disciples, the lessons were daily and involved interacting with one another and their varied personalities. They had to learn love and then practice love. Jesus was their object lesson. That’s why we are part of a congregation. We can’t learn it and do it alone. We need each other. Every aspect of our lives are touched by the kingdom. We are Christians and citizens of the kingdom 24 hours a day.

Kingdom Schools

The word ‘derek’, translated way (ways) in the OT is mostly used figuratively to “denote the course of a person’s life, often in connection with moral action and character. “ Mounces Complete Expository Dictionary of Old & New Testament Words. To Abraham, Jehovah God said: “For I have become acquainted with him in order that he may command his sons and his household after him so that they shall keep Jehovah’s way to do righteousness and judgment; in order that Jehovah may certainly bring upon Abraham what he has spoken about him.”  Gen. 18:19. NW

Of the Israelites God said: “And you must warn them of what the regulations and the laws are, and you must make known to them the way in which they should walk and the work that they should do.” Ex. 18:20. NW Things have not changed today. Note Jesus words: ““If YOU love me, YOU will observe my commandments; and I will request the Father and he will give YOU another helper to be with YOU forever, the spirit of the truth, which the world cannot receive, because it neither beholds it nor knows it. YOU know it, because it remains with YOU and is in YOU. I shall not leave YOU bereaved. I am coming to YOU. A little longer and the world will behold me no more, but YOU will behold me, because I live and YOU will live. In that day YOU will know that I am in union with my Father and YOU are in union with me and I am in union with YOU. He that has my commandments and observes them, that one is he who loves me. In turn he that loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will plainly show myself to him.”. John14:16. NW Proverbs instructs us, “In all your ways take notice of him, and he himself will make your paths straight.” Prov. 3:6. NW

In the first century, before it was called Christianity, serving Go was called “The Way.” It was the one correct way to live and serve God. (Acts. 9:2).

The Way

“If you obey the commands of the Lord your God and walk in His ways, the Lord will establish you as his holy people as he solemnly promised to do. Then all the nations of the world will see that you are a people claimed by the Lord, and they will stand in awe of you. The Lord will give you an abundance of good things in the land he swore to give your ancestors – many children, numerous livestock, and abundant crops. The Lord will send rain at the proper time from his rich treasury in the heavens to bless all the work you do. You will lend to many nations, but you will never need to borrow from them. If you listen to these commands of the Lord your God and carefully obey them, the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always have the upper hand. You must not turn away from any commands I am giving you today to follow after other Gods and worship them.” Deut. 28:9-14, LFB.

“Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.” Pro. 3:6, LFB

“For the Lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes.” Pro. 5:21, LFB.

“There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but at the end of it is the way of death.” Pro. 14:12, AMP.

“All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits (the thoughts and intents of the heart). Pro. 16:2, AMP.

“And many nations will certainly go and say: “Come, YOU people, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will instruct us about his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For out of Zion law will go forth, and the word of Jehovah out of Jerusalem. And he will certainly render judgment among many peoples, and set matters straight respecting mighty nations far away. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. They will not lift up sword, nation against nation, neither will they learn war anymore. And they will actually sit, each one under his vine and under his fig tree, and there will be no one making [them] tremble; for the very mouth of Jehovah of armies has spoken [it]. For all the peoples, for their part, will walk each one in the name of its god; but we, for our part, shall walk in the name of Jehovah our God to time indefinite, even forever.” Micah 4:2-5, NW.

“And requested of him letters to the synagogues at Damascus (authorizing him): so that if he found any men or women belonging to the Way [of life as determined by faith in Jesus Christ], he might bring them bound [with chains] to Jerusalem.” Acts 9:2, AMP.

“About that time a serious disturbance broke out concerning the Way.” Acts 19:23, NAB.

“I admit that I follow the Way, which they call a sect. I worship the God of our ancestors, and I firmly believe the Jewish law and everything written in the books of prophecy.” Acts 24:14, LFB.

“In the end, the holy people of the Most High will be given the kingdom, and they will rule forever and ever.” Dan. 7:18, LFB.

“You were killed and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have caused them to become God’s kingdom and his priests and they will reign on the earth.” Rev. 5: 9.10, LFB
